Fanlistings!

Well, I never thought I'd even be into fanart or websites, but now I have my first fanlistings! Wow. That was a crazy few days, making the layouts for three sites, super quick- I put a quick collective together, then made the fanlistings for Martha Wainwright and Aimee Mann. If you like Martha or Aimee, please join! I don't want to stay being the only member for each of them! *embarrassing* LOL.

PS.
Cigarettes and Red Vines

I don't even know what I want to say. I have this feeling I just want to type a whole bunch of explanation marks!!! !!!!!!! AND POSSIBLY UTILISE CAPLOCK!!!! Haha- Yes- we saw Aimee Mann play on Saturday, and she was INCREDIBLE, SENSATIONAL, AWESOME, FUNNY... *runs out of words to describe*

Evidently my spider sense was down, because unlike usually when some artist I like comes into town- and there are a lot who don't exactly come to Australia a lot- I buy the tickets WAY in advance and nearly forget about it at the time... No, this time I got a mail out from one of the venues on, like, Wednesday- I read- Aimee Mann... then I realise HOLY CRAP she's coming and playing THIS week.

Hasty ticket purchasing follows. Such a fun show- about halfway through, she said she would play '31 today', and then said, 'no, too similar to the last song', and then suggestions came from the audience, and she was like "okay, I'll just take requests", and proceeded to do so for pretty much the rest of the show. And at the end she was like "okay, one more song, and I'll go- oh wait, then I'll come back and do the encore- no, I'll just stay and do all three songs now, then we're done"- and then she did them, and left, and a whole bunch of people were silly enough to leave, but of course she came back and did another three more songs.

Pavlov's Bells clip

<lj-embed id="6" />
Pretty pretty!

Yippee!!! I got a new phone! My old one gave up the ghost, and I did think about getting the iPhone instead of the iTouch, but you know, I have FUN with my iPod, like, I have it attached to the stereo or whatever, so I don't want the phone and mp3 player combined, whereas, I just want a phone to be a phone- although, when I said that in the store, I think I insulted the girl a little, coz she replied "But this is SO much more than just a phone". Lol.

And *gasps* I went a little crazy and got something not LG for the first time in four years. I think I made the right choice, it's a pretty sleek little number! Omg, and I think the camera in this thing might be considerably better than the camera in my, um, camera. Haha.

... <strike>stolen</strike> borrowed from JJ:

Name one of my fandoms, and I'll answer the questions:

1. The first character I fell in love with:
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now:
3. The character everyone else loves that I don’t:
4. The character I love that everyone else hates:
5. The character I would shag anytime:
6. The character I'd want to be like:
7. The character I'd slap:
8. A pairing that I love:
9. A pairing that I despise:
10. Favorite character:
11. What are my five favorite things about the fandom.
12. What are my five least favorite things about the fandom.
13. Who are my five favorite characters.
14. Who are my five least favorite characters.
15. What are my five favorite pairings.
16. What are my five least favorite pairings.
17. Which character are you most like.
18. What is my deep, dark fandom secret.

Must go read more Sookie Stackhouse now. In case anyone is on the edge of their seat, yes, I've been obsessive compulsive about my reading a whole bunch of books this year... see?
mine is a beautiful country

Hello internetty world, yes, I've missed you.
But it's a beautiful world out there, even without any platypus sighting.

Okay, so it started out rainy. Really really rainy, but there sort of wasn't any choice about not going- we'd paid our money, and we had raincoats... Well, so far so good. Okay, so 65 kms isn't that much. In the scheme of things. For a fit walker. HA! Well, too bad we're not that fit. Maybe we were the slowest 27 year olds to ever walk that track. Seriously. All the track markers that would say things like '3 hours', they tended to take us about five. We sort of... were slow. Just, really really slow. And the fact that the track is called the Overland track doesn't mean much, since in many parts a more accurate name would be the Underwater track.

Basically after three days of walking the bad weather more or less lifted and the last three days were sunny and beautiful.

Sooooo...
Day 1: Cradle Mountain to Waterfall Valley.
It poured. There was thunder and lightning. We left Launceston at 8am, got to Cradle Mountain around 11.30 and were on the track around 12.30. I guess we walked about five hours that day, and arrived at the hut absolutely soaking. It was kind of weird- I'd never been in a hut like that before, and we were the last ones there, so we had to get the spare spaces that were left, so I couldn't sleep next to Myles, and that was a bit sad. But we dried off, cooked a great dinner, survived in somehow...

Day 2: Waterfall Valley to Windamere.
It was a much shorter walk, something like three or four hours, and not too hard. It still rained a fair bit, but not like the day before. This time the hut was a little better- the bunks weren't all full and Myles and I got a double bunk, and Clare and Chris above us. Plus, we wandered around the hut and saw some little wallabies hanging out, enjoying the brief moments of sunshine- that was pretty neat, they're really not scared of people, but obviously don't expect food either- nothing worse than feeding wildlife since that hampers its chance of taking care of itself. (More about that horror story at the end!)

Day 3: Windamere to Pelion.
So. Today sucked. It was a totally long walk and it seemed like we would never get there. At one point, we thought we were much closer than we were, but no- we were still only halfway there... the rain continued! But Pelion hut is really nice- huge, but friendly layout, with an amazing view!

Day 4: Pelion to Kia Ora.
Waking up this morning was the point at which I cracked it- I want to go home. But, if it was three days in already, it's at least three days out. Gah. But. After a cup of tea and a little chat to the wallabies- those hoppies are SO CUTE!- No rain! The day has come up nice and clear, and it's a three hour walk- we make it in about four, maybe four and a half with a lunch break for soup on the way. Okay, so the hut here was kinda old and decrepid, and the day was so shiny and clear- so we camped! And- this is the point at which I started to ENJOY the trip. Going to sleep, waking up to the sound of the river really close by was awesome. And the stars! I don't think I've ever seen them like that before. Wow.

Day 5: Kia Ora to Windy Ridge.
Another short day, this time to the brand new hut at Windy Ridge, which promises to be a nice night. But somehow the hut is too big- too unfriendly, and even though it's new the dorms are still too cozy and so we decide to camp- Clare and Chris didn't get their tent out, but we did- and I swear, best decision! And the best bit, it was crazy windy- living up to it's name I guess- so the tent didn't have any condensation at all when we packed it up. Hooray! In terms of the walking today- we made a decision to leave tomorrow, rather than spend an extra night. Now, it's mostly because Chris' foot has started hurting, but I think also a bit because Clare has had enough. And once she suggested it, I was all in.

Day 6: Windy Ridge to Lake St. Clair.
Walking is short and HAPPY! We're nearly done! Now, from Narcissus bay, you can walk 15 kms around the edge of the lake- or you can radio for a ferry. No prizes for guessing what we did! Now, back in Lake St. Clair... we're a day early, so we have to camp in the camp ground there. But, there are showers, so... BUT. There are also possums. Not the garden variety. Not the shy kind. The kind which have been FED by people for the last fifty years and have lost all traces of possumness in their quest to get to food. And yes, they know how to break into a tent if the zips aren't done up 100%. Now, I feel terribly guilty, but when I realised our tent was okay I was so relieved. Clare and Chris weren't so lucky! Yuck! Their only saving grace was that they hadn't taken the sleeping bags out of their bags, or unrolled their sleeping mats. So the possum pee was just on the floor of the tent. And of course, all the remaining food we had wasn't worth having anymore. Luckily we didn't need it anymore, so we just threw it all out, took all our stuff into the laundry room in the hope they wouldn't try to get into the tents again, and cleaned up the tent. But it was pretty sad to see animals so torn from their own nature that they are so fat and don't have any fear anymore, or any way of just looking for their natural food. Completely different from on the track, where we saw lots of animals who were just not scared of us, but ignored us.

Day 7: Lake St. Clair to Hobart, via the pub.
Yes, that's right. Our bus isn't until 6pm, with a 9pm arrival in Hobart. So, since we're over the camp ground, and there is a pub down the road... well, we walked 5kms to get a beer. Seriously. And spend about five hours in the pub, eating lunch, drinking, playing cards, then the bus picked us up from the car park of the pub and took us to Hobart. The day in Hobart was lovely- SMALL town! But pretty, and nice market, and we saw heaps of people that we had met on the track. But a nice market, oh- and shopping! Lol. All our clothes were SO ICKY! So we all shopped. New jeans, t-shirt, and thongs- flip flops to the Americans, btw- so we could get out of our hiking boots. O. M. G. Best $6 EVER SPENT! LMAO.

So, overall: Basically, it was better than I expected, and it was something so different to anything I have ever done before, I am just really happy with myself that I did it, and that I didn't complain, and actually enjoyed it. It really feels like an achievment of epic proportions.

And, if you made it through that LONG post... well, you deserve a drink for reading for so long! Lol.
random random

I have half a dozen- okay, two, maybe three- half formed art ideas running around in my head.
The question is, how to get them out of my head and onto a canvas/pixels... At the very least, I should be able to pull together something worthy of Line's challenge, I hope... but I wanna art ALL my ideas...

I'm also fond of the idea of sleep. I need to find a way to balance my sleep/art needs better. It might mean becoming unemployed... Hmm. That's a great plan, right?

On the pretending to be productive side, I'm updating/syncing my pc with my mp3 player, ripping all my new cds... basically, pretending like I am responsible mp3 player owner who is deserving of the iPod touch she is probably going to upgrade to soon... but... I SO DON'T NEED IT... aagh. I have a perfectly good mp3 player... really... it's fine. It's just... well, it's not a touch, that's for sure... What's also certain is that when I get paid tomorrow, all my money goes on school fees, so there's no chance I'm getting anything fun any time soon. Well... except some comics tomorrow, but that grand total should not be too hideous. Lol.

And- I never do this, but you always do, so JO:
<marquee>Happy birthday llywela13 Have a great day!!! </marquee>

some new art

Mirror mirror
My first manip ever! It's pretty basic, but I did it! Who is it? Well, who else could it be? Most beautiful girl in the world? That could only be Rosalie! I'm especially proud because the stock of the mirror is mine, and two of the textures are mine too, and I'm super happy with how they worked out. Otherwise, images are from Last Beautiful Girl and Shattered, textures are from Shattered and brushes are from Ugly Business... You know, the usual suspects! ♥

The prodigal returns
And... yet another first, my first Supernatural piece ever! It's kinda grungy and boy-like and the quote is from Six Feet Under. Images from PAAP and SCP, brushed from Ugly Business and Fractured Simplicity. I'm not too happy with the quality of John's face, but it wasn't super sharp to begin with, and I just couldn't quite get it right.

I have a new layout going on over here, by the way: vltavska vltavska vltavska, come and check it out. And I have wild plans for a new layout on Unfolding before too long... Just gotta choose a colour scheme...! And decide on a few other vital pieces of information!
Saigon Battle Child

Saigon Battle Child

Caps, textures, textures, fonts, lyrics

I really really love this song and I was listening to it the other day and got to thinking about how lost Riley is and how we have found out so much about her recently and how she is not another soldier, she is not another resistance fighter, she is child of war. While it might have seemed like Jesse was bringing her to a new world which was light again, really she was recruiting a soldier, cause unknown. The lyrics really comtrast a child in Australia and a child in Vietnam, but I think they kinda fit the two Riley's, both now inescapable. Additionally, I used other textures than I usually do- yay me! Yes! Expanding my horizons! Oh! And Terminator art, sans Summer Glau- that's new! 0.o Lol.

Caps, stocks, stocks, lyrics
And this piece was made for the Eyes on Fire challenge on BF- and... Summer features. Surprised? No, I'm not either... Episode: Allison from Palmdale.

Hmm. They are both quite purple. Note to self: new colour sceme next time...
You who never arrived, beloved

Okay, so this is a concept I have had in my head for longer than I've had photoshop. And when I got photoshop I had no idea how I could possibly do justice to this concept since I was so in love with it and I couldn't even begin to make prettiness. I hope I've succeeded now. See, I've always kind of wondered about how Faith might view Dawn, considering she wasn't always Buffy's sister, and wondered if Faith had ever wished that Dawn were her sister and whether having Dawn in her life would have made a big difference to the problems Dawn had.

images, images, caps, stocks, textures, textures, poetry

Post the first line of it in your journal, and that's your "Year In Review".

Borrowed from llywela13 :)

Jan: Melbourne is sweltering beyond belief: so far this morning it got to 30c at 8.30am, and is now 37c, at 11.30am. Crap. I remember that. Hopefully my new place is better able to keep cool.

Feb: It's a sunshiney day, I'm home alone- couldn't be better.

Mar: If I'm not here... it's coz I'm reading Twilight... Mwah ha ha. How many times have I read it now? Oh dear. I need help.

Apr: Two potential housefires in a day... that's bad, right?! Oops. I remember that. And then the oven was broken for ages. Lol.

May: If I was a vampire who didn't need to sleep... I would get so much more done. Possibly I would just write more memes? Meh. Hard to say.

Jun: I'm free! I submitted my last assignment last night. That's me done for the semester- woohoo! OHYes!

Jul: After much squashing into little Tiger airways seats, I'm home again. Hmmph. Holidays are better.

Aug: I made a new little banner set...

Sep: Seems like moving takes more time/money/patience than I expected. Most of all time.

Oct: Warning: rant. Some anger. Grr.

Nov: I'm at a bit of a loss for knowing what to do... the movie premiers in November for some of you, officially in December for me. Do I wait? Well, I didn't wait! Blurry, brown and photoshop!phil! Hurrah

Dec: Closer and closer... to the day I have my website. YES!
Not really coping here...

There's some kind of safety in watching a series that has already finished. For me, anyways. My whole fandom/obsessive thing started with Buffy and when I started watching, I think it was about six months since Chosen had aired- so I always knew there was an end in sight.

And to be honest, I kind of wonder if part of the hatey hate for season seven is that it's the last season- a kind of anger at the show for ending? I could be wrong, just talking crap. But I wonder.

Off the top of my head, I watched Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Tru Calling, Gilmore Girls and Six Feet Under in their entirety after they had finished. Of all of those, Six Feet Under's finale was probably the easiest to watch- it was just so fitting. For the record, my Buffy obsession was taking place while Angel was still airing, but I didn't have a TV or internet at that time. (Me without internet? Seriously? I have no idea how I managed that.)

And now I am watching Bones. Sigh. SO much more attached than I thought I would be, and now I am getting close to being up to date- up to 4.03- and my OTP have broken up and I don't know what to do! Of all the pairings on any show I have ever seen, this is my favourite, and from the spoilers I've read so far, I don't think I'm going to cope really well with the upcoming episodes.

books can be made pretty

I made some art for one of the latest challenges on BF, and the City of Bones wallpaper has been crossposted elsewhere as well. But both are book art, which I didn't do at all for Twilight, unlike the rest of the fandom- somehow I couldn't get into 'casting' people, but for these, I liked finding people.

City of Bones

Clary is a normal fifteen year old who likes to go out to clubs in New York City with her best friend- she's impulsive, easygoing, artistic and life is generally pretty good. Until one night she sees some people (who no-one else can see) kill a boy- who, it turns out, is a demon. And so the world- her real world- comes crumbling around her as she discovers she is more key than anyone could have guessed.

The three Clary's represent the various aspects of her personality and life- funloving, trapped by something she doesn't understand, and most of all, innocent and unaware of the things that are all to close to her- for example, the cup and the tarot cards.

I 'cast' Ellen Page- she's young, fun, smart and sassy and I think she would be a good Clary.

images, stocks, textures, textures, brushes

Specials

From Scott Westerfeld's website "Uglies is the first book of the trilogy. The second book is Pretties and the third is Specials. It's about a world in which everyone has an operation when they turn sixteen, making them supermodel beautiful. Big eyes, full lips, no one fat or skinny. This seems like a good thing, but it's not. Especially if you're one of the uglies, a bunch of radical teens who've decided they want to keep their own faces."

And! Sci-fi! Dystopia, baby! Hover boards, skintennas, eye screens and moving face tattoos...fun! Also: The Uglies series is a trilogy: the dedication in the fourth book goes something like 'this is for everyone who wrote to me to explain the real meaning of a trilogy'. Which I find funny, coz it reminds me of Twilight. Since that was a four book set too, and I latch on to insignificant things like that. Lol.

I 'cast' Kristen Bell, complete with face tattoos, since I think she's a perfect choice for someone who is both innocent, yet not naive- strong enough to think her own mind in a society where this is the last thing that is encouraged.

images, stocks, textures, brushes, lyrics

closer and closer...

... to the day I have my website... the name is still a secret (from most people, I'm actually shit at keeping secrets for extended periods), but it won't be long now. As luck has it, Myles knows all sorts of of tricky things like how to make a website, so I am being <strike>a whore</strike> lucky and he is helping me. I am focusing on doing the fun stuff like choosing colours and fonts, and then he shows me how to make it happen so I don't have to read any books. *happy*

If anyone has got any advice about anything websitey, it will be gratefully accepted...
Twilight: the movie

Well it's here. Or there, anyway. In much of the rest of the world that isn't Australia! Lol.

Basically, I downloaded it. Bad me. Haha. Release things on time, studios!!! *shakes fist* I'll see it in the cinema still, though, so that I can actually enjoy all the colours- the quality I watched was pretty shit.

I have really mixed feelings- on one hand I like that the director/producer/ whoever decided to make kind of a different film- gets a little arty, or something. On the other hand: maybe classic would have been better? I don't know.

Casting? Loved Alice, loved Jasper, didn't see enough of Esme to know for sure, liked Emmett more than I had expected to. Rosalie? No. There was a lot of Nikki Reed hate around, and I tried not to buy into it, I liked her fine in Thirteen... but.... No. She sucked. I didn't get beautiful, I got stuck up. I didn't get beautiful, I got bad fashion choices for her figure. Harsh? Yes. Too bad. I think there must be hundreds of beautiful blondes in Hollywood, so how it was so hard to cast for that role, I have no idea. As for Carlisle... aahh... I think he was overrated! *ducks to avoid flying objects aimed at head* Oh, Edward and Bella? Meh. Yes, actually, I liked Edward more than I had expected to. As for Bella... I am not too sure. I think she was okay, but I think she overplayed the uncomfortable, like she was playing New Moon Bella already, or something. I mean yes, vampire issue, etc, but she was falling in love for the first time. A smile or two wouldn't go astray!

The baddies? Yes, they were cool. Better than I had expected. The spider monkey thing? What was up with that? With the amount of stuff that was left out, that comment could have been omitted and the time given to something else. The everything? Overall: more good than bad, but if they couldn't fit Twilight into two hours, beats me how they're going to manage Breaking Dawn...
